Rajiv Syed, Esq.

Rajiv Syed has prosecuted close to 200 cases for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. While at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, he was placed in Brooklyn’s busiest trial bureau.

For over a decade, Mr. Syed has been using those skills learned at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in protecting the rights of his clients.

Preserving society’s civil rights has always been a passion, as Mr. Syed is a former board member of the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) – Suffolk County Chapter. While with the NYCLU, Mr. Syed was actively engaged in legal projects with respect to Islamophobia, Malicious Prosecution and the Real ID Act. Mr. Syed entered the realm of Landlord-Tenant law in Housing Court, where he was an active member of the Volunteer Lawyer for the Day Project, which served indigent and low-income clients in need of legal services.

Mr. Syed has over a 1,000-caseload experience in fighting for his clients in Landlord/Tenant/Housing Court, Civil Court and Supreme Court. The office represents both Residential and Commercial matters.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, in August 2020, Mr. Syed was granted a successful Preliminary Injunction in favor of his clients against a business using unfair business practices in Kings County Supreme Court.

In 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Syed successfully implemented newly passed legislation and was able to successfully negotiate dozens lease terminations for businesses. Mr. Syed also was able to navigate newly passed legislation and successfully defended multiple businesses in Commercial Landlord Harassment cases in Queens County – Part 52 – Commercial Landlord Tenant Part.

From 2020-2021, Mr. Syed was one of the first attorneys in Queens County to conduct a full virtual trial for a Landlord-Tenant Harassment case in Queens County Landlord Tenant Court Part C, which is for HPD repair and Harassment cases.

In 2022, Mr. Syed was one of the first attorneys in Queens County to have a Covid-19 stay of eviction vacated. The victory was one of the first successful challenges to Governor Kathy Hochul’s ERAP stay in Queens County. The result of this victory led to one of the earliest successful evictions post Covid-19.

In mid 2024, New York State passed the Good Cause Eviction law. Mr. Syed has close to over 50 successful evictions in compliance with the new Good Cause Eviction law.

Mr. Syed is a former Community Liaison for the New York City Council. Currently, in his spare time, Mr. Syed helps coach baseball for kids in the community.

Mr. Syed speaks Bengali, Hindi and Urdu fluently. Mr. Syed also has basic conversational skills in Japanese. Mr. Syed is proud of his South Asian heritage and is heavily involved with the South Asian Immigrant community, to ensure his community’s rights are not violated.

Mr. Syed has been involved with the New York State Bar Association, Brooklyn Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, Queens County Bar Association and American Bar Association. Mr. Syed is licensed to practice in New York State.
